So many projects!!!

Spring is just around the corner and your County government is hitting full stride.

We are in the second year of the 2014 “Penny for Progress” Capital Penny Sales Tax Projects. Several of these projects have gone through the “design and engineering” phase and are “ready for the big stage”.

  • The County Administration Building.  The renovations will begin this summer.  The new addition added to the Harvin Street side will cause many current functions such as the Treasurer and Auditors’ offices to temporarily relocate approximately 8-12 months during construction.

  • Road Paving Projects.  More than 6-8 miles of roads being resurfaced or newly paved over the next six months.

Other projects currently underway or beginning are:

  • The Patriot Park Pavilion.  A large enclosed community meeting space with seating capacity near 100.  It will also have an Island Gazebo overlooking two scenic ponds.  This project is well underway with plans to open this summer.

  • New Dalzell EMS Substation.  Bids will soon be released for construction of the EMS Substation which will be located adjacent to the current Dalzell Fire Station.  This new building will house staff along with garage coverage for our newly purchased ambulances.

  • New Sumter Veterans Park.  Final plans have been approved and progress is being made on the Veterans Park, which will be located adjacent to Shaw AFB at the new Sumter East Gate.  This new park will feature a Tuskegee Air Plane and a Military Flag Park to go along with the existing Mabry Memorial Park. The groundbreaking for this project is scheduled for Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2018.

  • Second Mill Dam.  This long awaited project, nearly two years, is well underway.  County Council appropriated an additional $260,000 to automate the aging spillway gates to better protect our community for future flooding events.
